What's to debug? If I have a desktop, laptop, or notebook pc and the debug tells me my hard-drive's fried, or that my ram's knackered, I buy a new H/D or a stick of ram. My CCD gets fried in my Kr, do Curry's have a replacement p'n'p CCD for it?.. I didn't think so!
Heron Drive, Langley, Slough's just the other side of Heathrow for me, so I guess I'll be heading over in that direction should my camera decide to die on me! Thanks, but no thanks!!

Debug mode is not necessarily about 'debugging'. It is a menu that lets you get deeper into some of the settings available on the camera. I've used it on the K-x for setting autofocus compensation (not available in the 'normal menu') this has enabled me to turn the camera into an outstanding performer.

Sorry. Assumed everyone would be in the know re. debug mode. It gives access to additional and extended menu settings, not least a wider range of AF adjust settings.

Used debug on K10 to sort backfocus issue. Worked well and sorted the issue. It was a question of being careful.

Hello,
I just wanted to mention one thing which is public but not widely recognized:
On older models you could enter the camera's debug mode with the help of some text files on the sd card - if you knew the right filename and some other commands as well.
The activation sequence and filename for the K-5 up until today was never found out as far as I know.
Nevertheless a very nice guy who programmed a tethering software now added a button "Camera debug mode on" to his software and it does work on the K-5!
You can find the software here: PK_Tether | Tethering and remote control software for Pentax DSLR cameras
It works only with the newest Version 0.6.
Naturally doing this is for the not risk averse people (might do all sort of damaging things to your camera) as it's not meant to be done by users, but...
Elsewhere in the same thread;
On a K-5 the adjustment goes from -120 to +120 micrometers. That is four more steps than in the normal -10 to +10 menu.
