Got to thinking about super resolution and how Ricoh would get around any Hassy patents for it, then realised they wouldn't have to!
Remember this?

From the Ricoh RDC-7 way back in 2000:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/RDC7/RD7A6.HTM
One of the RDC-7's most interesting features is its "PRO" high-resolution exposure function. There are actually three different PRO modes, two of them making use of the same basic innovation: The camera has the ability to take two full-resolution shots in very rapid succession, displacing the CCD sensor a half the width of a pixel between each shot.(For the real technoids out there, we're told this is accomplished with a mounting arrangement involving a piezoelectric actuator that minutely shifts the CCD during the second exposure of the series.) The camera then takes the two slightly offset 3.3 megapixel images and combines them together into nearly 7 megapixels of raw image data.

Does the D610 Rumour count as a Leak or a Slick?

Well, well, 24Mpixels.
Last time I barracked for a FF with about 34Mp. I was told by all the experts that more than 16Mp is bad. To much noise. No good . The less pixels the better.
I just wonder why all the manufacturers don't read this forum and learn from the expert. Who cares about technical advances and such. The less the better!!!!.
Regards Horst.

The less is better is still a valid statement if you look only for a particular moment in time. It use to be 8Mpx is better than 16Mpx and now 20Mpx is still better than 40Mpx. However, the technologies are moving on very quickly and current 20Mpx are actually better than 8Mpx from the past. All of these in terms of noise and overall IQ. Obviously resolution is what it is.
It's completely another story, who really need more than 6-8 MPx for casual and semi-pro usage, although cropping ability should not be underestimated.
The specs for the new K-3 looks promising. I am not in doubt it would be one of the best in class. Unfortunately, this will not abolish the fact Pentax become too pricey as a system and still lacking in terms of variety of available glass.

Actually, there is more to resolution than the MP count. I was reading the AP test report on the Canon 70D and it struck me that the resolution was lower, for all its 20+MP, than from the 16.28MP Ricoh GR. By implication, probably lower than the K-5 IIs as well, I haven't checked that.
Ricoh have quite a bit in common with Pentax, never having been afraid to offer very different products. There's one highlighted above, but there's also the film SLR with power derived from photo-electric panels on the pentaprism and the rather odd GXR series. It could be a very happy combination yet.
