How old was he? It is not surprising that many younger people have little or no knowledge of Pentax given that not many shops have them on display and there is little national advertising. Older photographers who used film SLRs will remember Pentax as a leading SLR manufacturer.

Welcome back David - that says a whole lot more about the person you met, than it does about any cameras.

LOL. I've just turned 36 (today in fact!) and apart from a Centon camera my parents bought my in my teens, I've only ever shot with Pentax. I started with an Optio 550S, then a K100D, an Optio S, and Optio S3, a K20D and now a K7 and an Optio S7. Most folk look at me as if I'm daft when I tell them I shoot with a Pentax - mainly becuase they've never heard of it and therefore assume its some 'foreign' cheap and inferior brand. Yet they always seem very impressed when they see my shots. I always tell them that if they cut me open I'd be like a stick of rock with "Pentax" written all the way through.

Scot - I can sympathise with you there. When I joined a photography club where I work, I seemed to get a fair amount of (mostly) joky abuse for being a Pentax user from a couple of Canon users. This hasn't happened for a fair while now, since I've won quite a few of our 'just for fun' monthly competitions and they haven't had any success at all there.

So when I said no, he then asked, Fuji? Sony? Again no, so then he ran out of ideas after Olympus and Panasonic. When I said my camera was a Pentax - his response was, Oh yeah I've heard of them....
