Jumbo Wing

Taken somewhere over China on a flight from Hong Kong to Amsterdam.

From Hong Kong to Amsterdam, then this must be a sunset! Or I´m wrong?

Well I reckon I'd have been looking east in this shot so that would make it a sunrise I think. It was a long, long time ago though!

My theory that is a sunset is because I suppose the B747 is in a more or less straight flight from Hong Kong to Amsterdam (I know that the airways are not at all times a straight line). The direct course or track (show in a globe map) is more or less 280º/300º, and the sun is in the horizon (or near it) and at the nose of the aircraft. For these reasons is that I believe this is a sunset.

Well that sort of makes sense to me so you could well be correct!

Don't mind at all mate and that's a nice shot. I don't have any similar "above the clouds" shots because I rarely take a camera on board with me, however many is the time I've seen similar sights and wished I'd had a camera.

On one flight from Edinburgh to New York we passed just below Greenland on a very clear day and had great views of icebergs and glaciers - I was kicking myself for not having a camera with me that day!

its those 'once in a lifetime' shots that and you didn't take the photo

i was flying home and saw the most absolutely beautiful site of Melbourne City from the air. you could see the tall buildings and everything, and the whole city scape was really cool

so i whipped out my camera, even though we were landing at the time, but i didn't care. i tore off the lens cap and it flew to the ground

i leant over 2 strangers and pressed my camera to the glass and pressed the shutter

"battery depleted"


and the plane banked to the right and i lost my shot

bloody hell
