It can happen for many reasons, but don't forget that illness or a family crisis can also be a reason, so best not to be too critical just in case.
I know what you're asking and a reminder has been sent.

A reminder is always sent if nothing happens, either judging or setting a new competition. If, after a suitable time is given for a response, still nothing happens I'll cover it.

And yet another one People are lazy by nature. Maybe having a summery of the most important rules on the actual competition page, IN CAPITALS; will stop those that do not wish to judge, submitting their entries? Most people do not bother to follow the link it seems.

Not everyone feels able to put into words what they think of a photograph, and the reasons for choosing or rejecting it. I know it is frustrating for those who have entered, and even a few words would help but not everyone is skilled at criticising.

Now the site has a 'like' facility, could it be used for a publicly voted competition? The photo with the most likes in a period wins! Comments could be added optionally by those voting. As before, the winner sets the following competition, but the winner wouldn't judge it, apart from using his/her 'like' vote.
I'm not sure how one would get around multiple likes though if that is an issue (though it might not be.)

True, but it is tough. If they don't try they never will.
I don't enter, because I hate judging. Not that I think my photo would win, but I am not prepared to take the chance.

I was terrified the first competition I won and had to set the subject then judge the images entered by many people who I thought and still do are better photographers than me. Afterwards it wasn't so bad, no one came back angry and just accepted "the judge's descision is final". In all the competitions I've not seen anyone get angry with a result. I do appreciate the work that can go into judging a big entry and usually any negative critique is helpful. A has been said if you don't want to fullfil the rules of the competition don't enter.

What you are all saying is fine, although I'd stop short of being too judgemental as we don't know the circumstances of anyone who fails to judge or set a competition. We can't make the process too rigid either, as it is for fun and intended to be friendly.
For whatever reason, I've now had to step in and I've set a new competition that I hope we can easily get to grips with. Have fun with it and I'll be posting the results and appraisal, perhaps in the early hours of New Year's Day, just after our New Year's Eve celebrations are coming to a close. If I have to make that a little later, after breakfast, I'm sure we'll all understand!

I can't believe you'll manage that in the early hours of the New Year morning!
Sorry to hear Gwyn you don't want to enter competitions for fear of winning. A few of your thoughts would never go amiss should that happen.
For info the Roadscape results are now posted.

Well it looks like I won this week and I'll have a go at judging although I must say I'm quite nervous about judging other peoples work. I've come 2nd. and had a couple of HC's but dreaded the thought of winning. Now it's happened so I'll just have to get on with it.
John. See your PMs.
