I realise that most of the 350+ shots I took in Japan recently will probably be regarded as holiday snaps, which I suppose is what they are, but I thought I would post a few more to get some feedback. The ones below were all taken with the kit lens.

1. The Cenotaph, Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima.

2. Torii Gates, Miyajima.

3. Senso-ji Temple Pagoda, Asakusa, Tokyo.

4. Kyoto Station.

5. Tokyo Tower.

6. Nakamise-dori, Asakusa, Tokyo.

7. Nade Botokesan Buddha, Asakusa, Tokyo.

8. Tokyo from Roppongi Tower.

Love that last shot. But do I see a slight reflection from maybe shooting through glass?

Hi Gordon,
Scrolling and looking at your pictures i have a little tip. If you want some feedback it's a bit easyer for us if you number the images. Specially when there are more as 3. From this serie there were three who got my attention.
Nr 2agoda in lake. Possibly wrong focus point used by camera?
Nr 5: Tokyo tower. They do copy everything don't they
Nr 8: Tokyo night shot. Strange phenomenon occuring ? Strange ghosting of skyscapers ( 3 times)just left of the middle at lowest part of the sky.
Maybe a case of internal reflection. Haven't seen something like that. Or could it be that you shot the picture behind the glass and is it just a reflection on that.
Please let me know, i am really curious
Martin.
Best regards,

Martin.

You're both right, it was shot behind glass, with lights and shadows all over the place behind me when I was taking them. Had to take quite a lot, using jackets over the camera etc., to get a few half decent ones. This was one of the better ones.

I don't have PS yet so I can't really sort them that way.

(I've added numbers as requested)

What do you have?

Let me know and I might be able to give you a tip or two
(Most things can be done with Photoshop Elements, or Gimp.)

Hi Matt,

I normally only shoot JPEGs and do some really basic stuff in Picasa2.

I've also got the Pentax Photolab which came with the K10D, but I haven't used it.

If you shoot Jpeg you can't use the Pentax Photolab. Raw files only.

I use the Photolab combined with the Pentax browser quite a lot to do quick jpegs from snapshots.

In the Pentax browser you just mark all the pictures you want as jpegs and choice a destination. Then the program makes the jpegs from the raw files. In one go

If I get some shots I want to do some work on I open them individually in the Photolab to develop a TIFF and then use either gimp or PS CS to do the rest.

So for fast jpegs the Browser is very easy - and you always have the raw file to do more work if you want to (e.g. change the WB or so.)

That might help a bit!

It might be worth checking out Photoshop Elements. Not all versions were good ones, alas. Version 2 was just fine and can often be picked up for next to nothing. I believe Version 3 was ok as well.
The current version is 6 which is around £60. Some places will be selling off version 5 - so it's worth keeping an eye open

You can do most photographic related things with Elements... and you'll find a few tutorials on my website

Thanks for the advice, I'll need to check out the system requirements for PS Elements, as I'm using a laptop which is a few years old and I'm not sure if the processor and the RAM will be up to it.

I do need to get sorted out with something though as I quite often look at my pictures and think, I wish I could change this or remove that etc.

Photoshop Elements 2 will work on pretty well anything
(Doesn't have healing brush, but supports layers and most Photoshop plugins)
You can often find genuine editions on certain auction places...

kill two birds with one stone...
get a wacom graphics tablet. the 4x6 babmoo costs about 15% more than buying photoshop elements alone...in canadian dollars that makes getting a graphics tablet about 15-20 dollars.....
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
