Perhaps the shutter is sticking.
Remove the lens, set exposure mode to M or Tv, set a long shutter speed of >2 seconds, look into mirror box and press the shutter release.
If the shutter sticks, you'll see it.

PentaxUser has it I think, the shutter is usually in two halves and it sounds like the top half of yours is not working.
