Issue with Adaptall PKA mount

I've just bought a PKA mount off Ebay which doesn't appear to work. Do yo have any suggestions that I should try before I send it back??

The apeture setting doesn't display.

I have other Adaptall lenses where the mount needs a slight twist (a degree or two) to ensure contacts are engaged, which I gather is normal.

I've also tried the new (to me) mount on other lenses (19ah & 55b) with no luck

The grey lever that is on one side of the mount, push it towards the outside edge, it sometimes gets bent out of alignment (had one a while ago that did it).
Also, there are some that need you to scrape the little screw to make a decent contact .. as you look at the mount with the contacts facing you and at the bottom, the screw is to the left at about 8oclock.

I have the same mount and the aperture doesn't display, I hadn't noticed before since I use it with the f8 500mm mirror lens. I've just noticed, too, that manual metering doesn't work either.

Ah, got that wrong .. its easier when you can see a picture of the mount rather than do it from memory.
The bloke who I nicked this photo from rubbed a HB pencil in there to make the contact better, others scratch it with a sharp blade.

Nope.... still not working.

What I have just noticed is that the LCD display says 'aperture priority mode' no matter what programme setting I have the camera in when I have this mount attached.

Any other thoughts Mike?

I do know they can be very temperamental things those PK/A mounts.
I have one back in the UK that is next to useless, loses contact at the most annoying times.
Probably why they stopped making them.

If its not making contact while twisting and you have tried the other things then I would send it back.

There's a type of brown loctite on the screw end Mikes indicated, scrape it all off with a craft/model knife/scalpel. Do the same on the 2 screw ends to the left of that one. You have to establish an electrical contact through these. If it doesn't work when you put the lens on, try twisting the lens off about half a mm and keep an eye on the LCD for the aperture to show. If it still doesn't show release the lens button and slowly turn another 1 to 2mm. If it shows and still won't work when you put it on normally you have't scraped off all the Loctite. In 99% of cases this is the problem. Some people redrill and silver solder pins in but it shouldn't be necessary all the mounts are the same size.
