whew I'm glad I bought mine last year, I could never have justified that kind of price for one!

It's belated recognition that not many people buy prime lenses any more, and that 50mm is not "standard" on digital. So, without the economies of scale that come from huge sales, the dear old 50mm needs to carry a higher price.

Sad, but life.

Surely, perhaps apart from macro, the dear old 50mm was one of the most popular primes? Beloved for its IQ, speed and useful 80m efl?

Edit: Or maybe it's popularity was simply down to the hitherto low price!

That price is mad while other dealers are still selling it for around £200.

But perhaps it is a sign of the future value. I might eventually sell mine and use a MF f1.7 instead.

Well, I was thinking about how I justify a 10 - 20mm Sigma, now I have an option.
