Is the K7 already flawed?

You were very unlucky then Or maybe it was the season you went in? I have to admit watching the many cubs we saw covorting around and then being scolded by their Mothers and then snuggling up to make up was something that I will treasure for a long time. That and their amazingly sweet expressions. To be honest I don't know how I managed to stop myself getting out of the van and cuddling them

Thanks to you all for showing what could be achieved. I think I should give the tread back to those wishing to continue their debate about whether the K-7 is already flawed. As I don't have one I can't say

here's my edit ...time restraints prevented a proper cut-out and a RAW file gives more to work with, but I assure you, your firneds image had some post work to it as well...better files from the camera = easier work in post, so proper focus, exposure etc in camera is worth learning!



also note how many different interpetations of the same image from different people? there is no right or wrong, just an image that makes you happy! don't quit learning!

I am pretty sure Peter would be shooting in RAW wheras I use JPEG. I don't feel experienced enough to try RAW yet. I am also pretty sure he would have pp'd it before publishing it on the website as it is their showcase. I am also sure that I need to improve my knowledge and skill in using my K200D and definately my K20D. I must admit that I thought I had the 20D with me in Tanzania, but am now not so sure! I saw some of the shoots the Nikon user had taken of Tigers in India and I was in awe of their beauty. But then another Canon user and myself had a chat and we both agreed that our shoots weren't as bad as we thought given how much pp had been performed to get those images. We really would have been impressed had they been straight from the camera as we first thought

I like your adjustments in relation to the lioness and cub's colour, but am not so keen on the grass My feeling is that white balance probably plays a part

OK then. This is my attempt at improving your image. What do you think of it?

EDIT: I haven't tried to match the other photo, the colours are all wrong in it. It has a definite green cast in my opinion. The colours in your image are much better. This was all done in Adobe Lightroom 2.4.

Like what you've done with the greens there Peter, I have to say that was also one of my goals when having a dabble

Thanks for taking up the challenge I have another 5499 you are welcome to have a go at improving if your game I like want you have done a lot. I agree that I think the Pentax colours are better than the Canon ones - more natural, how much that is done to any pp by Peter I am not sure! Peter is an excellant photographer but to be fair on myself I probably only see his best shots! I do feel that this has gone some way to proving my point that a good photographer with a Pentax can produce pictures as good as if not better than they could with a Canon or a Nikon. I am sure that some of you will still disagree which you are entitled to

Come on Jeanette, you must know that old joke. Knowing your favourite subject, if I said I was game, you'd probably shoot me.

Your images are very good on the whole, you have to stop doing yourself down all the time, and don't give up on those flower shots.

My best advice is to develop your post-processing skills. To do that you might need to invest some money in a decent editor. My recommendation is Lightoom for RAW processing and probably Photoshop Elements. If you get really good, move up to a full copy of Photoshop if you need to.

Oh, and change your image saving to .PEF RAW.
