hi there,
today i went to spectrum in Tottenham Court Road (london).
i was there because is a pro center pentax and i'm looking for a da* 16 50,
so i asked about this lens and the price...and they told me that they cannot tell me the price because after i would have gone to amazoon to compare and find a better price...
amazoon???
the funny thing was that all staff were serius about this...no price!
this is strange...i'm italian and in italy when you enter in a shop and ask about price... is normal receive an answer...
i asked again my question but they were jocking with me...
so for me this is the first and the last time in this shop!

Very strange I must say.

It's a great way to sell a lens .

Certainly that would be a shop I wouldn't bother with again

If they don't tell you the price then it will be very difficult for you to buy from them!

Very strange.

This is fairly normal in Tottenham Court Road, they expect you to make them an offer and they will work up from there.

yes strange...
after they said me:
when you want to buy the lens?
i said: i;m looking for..so i think in these days..
and they said: came back the day when you buy it!

this is very polite!

anyway i think i'll buy the lens by internet..i'm afraid to have another contact with a "human" seller!

If you have time in London visit our friends SRS in Watford, real 'humans' and the best prices.

I know the shop and that is exactly what they do. They claim that they will undercut anyone's price so they expect you to go in and say "Blogg's cameras have the lens for X" and they will undercut it.

Personally I find the whole shop so weird and odd that I won't buy anything from there. As others have said, get on the train to Watford and go to SRS.

Cheers, Kris.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Spectrum seem to be a strange set up. Whilst agreeing that one can expect a bit of bargaining/ haggling in Tottenham Court Road, it was still silly. Once when I asked the price of something I got the usual what price have you seen it elsewhere. So I told them what CameraWorld were selling the item for.

We can't match that 'cos they are grey importers'/ same when I quoted Park Cameras price. I gave up at that point!

I have had a similar experience. I was looking to get a DA 21ltd and Spectrum wouldn't tell me their price, unless I produced some evidence of what the competition was offering the lens for... then when I mentioned SRS and amazon (i knew the prices at both places) the chap said he wouldn't match them and started muttering (not sure why). Finally he said I could go up Tottenham Court Road and find the lens, get a price, then come back and he would knock a penny off... all very weird. Suffice to say I didn't buy anything from them...

Between Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus, just off the north side of Oxford Street, in Wells Street, there is Camera World, see map here. Very nice people. I bought my DA55-300 there.

They appear to be listing the DA*16-50 at a slightly better price than SRS see here.

They are almost con-men in that store.

Pentax Pro-Centre ... I wonder where they acquired the window stickers from.

To use a phrase from Royle "Pro centre? Pro centre, my aaaarrrrsssse!"
