Vivitar lenses supplied with the Pentax fittings should be fine with your ME Super.

I had a Vivitar zoom for my MX.
One point to note is that Vivitar lenses focus in the opposite direction. If you look at your Pentax lens, infinity is at the left of the scale, on the Vivitar on the right.
If you go for the Vivitar, make sure you give it a good try out first - because the whole lens will be new to you, the difference may not be obvious to start with.
I have never seen this difference highlighted in any magazine lens review, but, when I recently traded my Vivitar in for the Pentax, the dealer knew straight away what I meant.
I guess if you use an independent auto-focus lens, it does not matter which way it focuses.

I think the reason this is rarely refered to now is due to the majority of cameras being autofocus and therefore the problem is less relevant. Certainly all the reports in the photo press of 15 years ago or so used to mention it and it was one of the sales ploys of Sigma who made their lens focus the same as the manufacturers lenses. As far as I am aware it is only Pentax and Nikon who focus this way round. Going back to that time the majority of cameras sold were Canon, Minolta and Olympus. (mind you Oly lenses were always different because the aperture was near the front - main reason I got a KX rather than an OM1). Nikons were mainly bought by pros whio used Nikon lenses and so the large majority of lenses sold were the other way round and it was cheaper to just change the mount rather than the lens. This problem will also effect others such as Tokina. Having said that, if you can cope with the problem, the Vivitar series 1 lenses were just about the best independents made and the closest to Pentax quality.
