Just to check, is the version of Irfanview 4.23 or above, PEF support was only introduced at this point, however it does not make a distinction about what PEF version it supports. I know that photoshop cs3 will not read the new PEF format. I will download it and have a go tonight, see what happens.

The version for both the program and the plug-ins is 4.25.

I think you will have to install the Pentax codec on your new computer.

I carried out two installations on Windows XP & Windows 7 x64 desktops. The windows xp install worked fine and as expected I could view the PEF file from the File/Open menu, however the windows 7 version did not display PEF files. On investigation the pef format is not available in the "file type" window even after the plugin update was installed. I then change the "Files of Type" to "All Files (*.*)", selected a PEF file and it opened ok, although it did not display as a thumbnail. To summarise on your current windows install:
Select File / Open
Change "Files of Type" to "All Files (*.*)"
The select your PEF file.
I hope this helps if not get back to me

I've recently replaced my 7 year old computer. I used Irfanview to view my RAW images (PEF).
I've downloaded the program onto my new computer plus the most up to date plug-ins but I cannot find the file extension PEF. Irfanview was fine on the old computer and I could view my PEF files.
Anyone any idea where I am going wrong?? How do I find the PEF file extension?
Thanks
John
