I built my own one last year (a different design to that linked to) and gives greater range of timing. Having said that I have mainly used it at 10 to 20 seconds timing.

Its been great to take 400-500 shots of a sunset/ tide coming in and then compressing in to a couple of minutes video. Set the K10D to take jpegs at its 2Meg setting and one almost has full HD video piccies and a lot of room on an SD card!

It does rather increase the shutter count rapidly though

So does the K5 - I'd never be able to build something like that myself.

But I believe it tops out at 99shots? The one I made just goes on until battery runs out!

Jessops offered a winder for the M series bodies with one built in - only snag is that you need to keep the shutter button pressed on the remote. As mine didn't include a remote I plan to make one with two buttons, one latching and one push to make.

Not nearly enough for anything I wanna do. Even the 999 of the K-5 might not be enough.

Doesn't 99 come out at only about 4 seconds of footage? Useless for timelapse, and I can't think of another good reason to have an intervalometer!

It does - however the programme I use does a merge/ blend so each single frame actually lasts more than the 1/25sec frame rate and becomes several frames gardually mergin with those adjacent to it (if you see what I mean!) This way the time can be extended a bit and it will still look as though it flows.

Also - one might want to use intervalometer simply to take a set of stills showing, eg, a flower opening over an hour or two

How hard would it be to combine a variable timer unit (which simply closes a pair of contacts at the selected intervals) with one of those £5 infra-red remotes? That'd give you a device which would work on all Pentax DSLRs.

I guess if you are happy butchering the IR remote to put the closing contact in parallel with the button on it, then no problem so long as the polarity is correct. The device I made uses a thyristor as its output control - and that effectively just shorts the contacts when trigger fires

That's why I suggested using the £5 remote rather than a genuine one. Much easier!
