Personally I'd have to save a lot more than that to forego the security of buying from a trusted UK retailer.

It really isn't worth it, not even for double that amount. I know from bitter experience. Not with a camera but with my astronomy gear. Bought an eyepiece from the States that cost £499 and it turned out to be defective. I had saved £127 but the hassle and shipping costs that followed were horrendous. And in the end it never got properly sorted. I think i would want to save the cost of another camera body, so if it broke i just bought another.
