% is the cropped/original ratio on the longest edge. 3,5 and 6 are very small subjects and larger crops than I would like - I set myself a minimum limit of 2000 pixels longest edge. I'm starting to experiment with other options to get closer, but it's damned difficult though.
Many thanks - very useful information.Kenty wrote:
Super shots. Did you use a tripod or was your camera hand held? Also, approximately, how much cropping was there.
Roughly what F stop and speed did you use?
I need to improve my macro photography and your comments should help me.
Cheers.....John
Thanks. The metallic fly was handheld (but in prone position resting on elbows), the rest with a tripod.Super shots. Did you use a tripod or was your camera hand held? Also, approximately, how much cropping was there.

Brilliant, dr. I've been trying to improve my macro shots and, as I have been doing so, I've been watching you improve at a faster rate. Infuriating but inspiring. It's always something to aspire to.
I can see a 1.7x converter will be on my (long) shopping list.
Cheers,
DS

Very nice, I especially like the grasshopper and the second fly.
I wish I could get the macro out, and was hoping that the wonderful garden Jackie has made from sratch here in Doha would attract some bugs, but alas, it seems there's no bugs here save the occassional mosquito

Thanks all for the comments and Charlotte for the ID. I'd happily send some wasps over to you AG, they're driving us mad this year.
I'm still experimenting with the ideal set-up and settings for macro, it's a remarkably difficult thing and I have a lot of admiration for those who do it so well.
