Very nice. I've been meaning to experiment with my DS and IR but haven't got round to doing anything more than just testing so far.

Look good... but I reckon the blackpoint needs adjusting. I'll have a tweak today

Yes, it was the black and the white point
I also added a few other adjustment layers in PS-CS2. I left the details on the PBase page: http://www.pbase.com/mattmatic/image/60653513/original

Hope you approve
...now I must get myself a 100mm square IR filter...

Great composition Ammonyte.
Now all we pentaxians need is for Matt to setup a finishing shop

Having taken the image so far, just for your consideration as an idea, how about adding some noise (grain) and some Diffuse Glow to simulate the effect of using Kodak High Speed Infrared film?
I find the digital IR is interesting as it is, but do often add the mentioned effects to increase the IR simulation.

Thanks for the kind words, and Matt, that's awesome, I almost didn't recognise my own photograph!

Ammonyte - glad you approve then

Dare I say it???
I found Matt's alterations a little over-powering for my own tastes! There, I've said it! Sorry Matt!!
Anyway, as I can't just say that and not put up my own effort, here it is. Hope you don't mind Ammonyte, but it was nice to have a play with someone elses image for a change.

I've added some highlight glow and grain, to try and keep one of the moderators happy, at least.
It's inspired me, I'll pop out in a while with my own filter and D.
Cheers,
Dan

It's interesting all the different ways that a scene like that can be processed. For me the original one lacks some impact and fixing the levels sorts most of that out. I also personally don't like the noise in the sky and perhaps the most impressive component of MattMatics version is that way he's sorted that out.
Anyway I've done a version as well, but I've gone for a more dreamy feel:

Aah, the old 'squiggle' filter! What is that, 'plastic wrap'? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick entirely? Interesting effect, none the less.
It made me smile - there was I adding grain, when you were pleased that Matt had removed it. I was guessing that was more down to the jpeg artifacts than from deliberate noise reduction, but we'd have to ask Matt that.
You're right about the different processing, but it also shows how different people perceive an image to be 'right'. Matt obviously felt that his take on this image was 'right', but I would have thought I'd overcooked it, hence my more subtle approach. But the noise for you is an issue, whereas for me it helps - horses for courses, as they say.
Frankly wouldn't want it any other way, either.

It was deliberate noise reduction on the sky
Trouble was that the original JPG was a low quality one - so the regular patterns you see in the noise are down to JPG artifacts.
So, I noise reduced as much as I could - doing this on a separate layer - then blended the layers with a layer mask.
As you say, it's horses-for-courses. I was just trying to show some of the things that could be done

Fair do's then. Nicely done with the noise reduction
Anyway, enough typing, I should actually take some pictures today. If I get anything decent for this thread, I'll pop it up later.

I generally like grain on B&W film, indeed I used to develop certain films (including Kodak HIE) in Rodinal just because I liked the grain it produced. The digitial equivalents don't seem to work as well for me though as the results often look heavy handed.
My version was produced in a similar way to the MattMatic one, however I applied the noise reduction to the entire picture and set the preserve details to 0% and sharpen details off. I liked the effect MattMatic produced in his version, although it is perhaps a tad stronger than my own tastes would prefer and I decided to experiment with his technique. My thinking on my own version is was it's the sort of soft effect on the leaves and grass etc. you'd get with a long exposure when a light breeze was moving them about.

I took a cokin IR filter with me and took this shot at Elterwater
Pentax *ist DS, 16-45 mm DA lens, Cokin IR filter, 1/8 sec at f13 ISO400, handheld.
Back to the drying out and sorting through the rest of the photographs. I think I have quite a bit to learn on the post-processing side for handling IR images.
I did find that if I shaded the eyepiece well, I could make out enough of the scene to frame the shot without guesswork.
