Manual and TAV mostly
Someone mentioned focus bracketing. Reckon that would be an excellent feature

Av most of the time, with manual Iso.
Take care.

Mostly Av, occasionally Tv, B (when photographing the aurora more than 6 months ago now) and playing about with a night photo.
Auto white balance always.
A couple of the built in filters just for fun.
Haven't used the video setting at all.
But to be honest I haven't taken that many photos this year. I just haven't been inspired enough, so in another 6 month period I may use more variables and play a lot more.
Bare minimum for me would be Av, Tv, M and B plus a range of white balance options.
I'm not missing anything from my Pentax body.

sometime when looking for inspiration.... I find it better to just pick up the camera and force myself to shoot ten or twenty images around the house/yard/garden just pick a random spot and see how many different images I can make right there and then... does not get me inspired often I admit, but it keeps me productive until inspiration hits.Mostly Av, occasionally Tv, B (when photographing the aurora more than 6 months ago now) and playing about with a night photo.

also I am not as much asking if anything is missing, I'm more interested in learning what people could live without.... say for example I wanted a stripped down k5 for a lower cost, less buttons, easier to use camera, what could you take out that most people would never miss... what could you relegate to the menu system, and what should be on the dials and buttons...
I'm just curious, that is all.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.

I use "M" about 90% of the time, with manual focus lenses - "Av" with the kit lens for the other 10%.

usually Av or M, the latter when using flash systems. I never use AWB, preferring my shots to render the available light as it is, so Daylight is my usual choice.
Best regards, John

Mostly M for exposure and AWB as long as the lens plays along.
Some lenses require a proper WB reading from an Expodisc.

I see a re-curring theme here.....
seems to me, that a new evil class cam with k mount would need only have three dials (aperture, shutter and iso) a green button and a "user defined /af" button and 4 or five "Quick set" user defined functions in the first pull down menu, if they want to make an easy to learn, easy to use camera that d-slr shooters might want as a back up body...
what think you guys?
literally three scroll wheels, two buttons, and the four way rocker switch (or touch screen and no 4 way rocker).
Pentax hyper manual with each scroll wheel "lockable" by clicking on it...

I'll buy it if it has a hyperfocal distance focus mode.

just out of curiosity.....
I use manual white balance when ever possible, auto when not...
me, I've only used "M" and occasionally "AV" and "TAV" in my k10's
and "M" "P" and Video modes on my kr
have not use b or x or multiple exposure much at all since purchase....
so what would the bare minimum be for you? (assuming you wanted a minimalist body?)
What do you feel is missing from your Pentax? (I'd like more video codecs and shooting options).
