Images at Hughenden

These are from a stroll around the grounds today (14/03/2014):

A very good collection - 1, 2 & 5 are the best I think. They convey the peaceful atmosphere and beauty of the place, and there's great detail and depth in the those scenes (my favourites as above).

Have you changed camera or lenses Philip ?- I'm seeing more clarity in these shots than I remember from yours previously.


I don't personally get much from those 'middle of a tree trunk' shots (did you put another up recently?), but the rest all give an insight into the location.

I do like these images, especially 1,2,4 and 5. However, they all share a common trait in that they look a little 'washed out', not exactly overexposed but veering towards that. As a result, they don't have the Impact that they could have.

Nigel and David - Thank you for viewing and for your helpful comments

I'm pleased the clarity is increased, Nigel. I usually have a Limited lens on the K-5, so hopefully the images are the result of progress and experience with the use of the Unsharp Mask.

David, they do seem a bit lacking compared with their appearance in PaintShop Pro and on my tablet - I will also have to concentrate on brightness and saturation of resampled images for web viewing.

Philip, you may be aware already, but I'd recommend using the Photoshop (or Elements) 'Save for Web' feature. This provides auto functions and easily produces files to your exact size specification that look exactly the same as the original (say you were working from a TIFF or a max quality JPEG).

You have control over dimensions (I just choose 75%) and JPEG quality to set an exact size (I usually go for 1.2 mb), plus the choice of sharpening method (Bicubic Sharper is best for web reductions). It always gives me a new image that looks exactly the same as my original. The only issue sometimes if the size reduction is very large, is some banding can appear on clear blue skies.

You said you use PaintShop Pro, but if you wanted to try the PS 'Save for Web you can get CS2 for free with a licence.

Thank you, Nigel - I do have Elements as well and, although I usually use PSP, I will look into it for save for web.

I really like no 8 ..I'm a sucker for bricks ,I think the colour is great but needs a tiny anticlockwise tweak...jeff..
