The people who are responsible are getting away with it because of their high post count.....

Precisely why threads were deleted yesterday. I didn't follow the threads in question but can guess the route they took, again.
If people can't be a bit civilised towards each other, and use smileys to indicate when they are not serious, then I think it is good that the mods step in. It's what they are there for after all.

Now can we get back to photography in general and Pentax in particular please?

I think it'd be quite easy to introduce a yellow/red card system coupled with a one months posting suspension for offenders who have been 'sent off' as it were.

Then again, perhaps some here have outgrown this forum and need to move on to the heavyweight arena where the fur really flies.

As far as I am aware only two threads have ever been deleted and it has never been necessary to ban any member.

Compared to the incredible sensitivity of some other forums, where almost any deviation is jumped on instantly and temporary bans are routine, things are very relaxed around here.

Can only agree 101% with John. If you really want to find some truly moronic moderation, with little cliques, in-fighting, little toleration of new members etc, try the amateur photographer forum, or the one at photo net...

I think there was some non bashing, usefull discussion on the thread, that could've been left, but recognize and respect the moderators decsision to remove.

Best call was made, under the circumstances.

I guess I missed all the fun but it must have been good. Still don't know what it's all about but it sure stirred up a hornets nest. You go away for a few hours and miss all the fun, DOH!

as a veteran of a number of forums covering various topics over the last 10 years, I can honestly say this is just about as relaxed and friendly as they come.

The mods here do a very good job, I applaud them.

Tend to agree, despite being one (of several) folks who'd posted in an non-controversial way on the thread.

I'm very disappointed.

I go away for a few days, and all hell breaks out.

Agree absolutely.. being a contributor also. Is it possible though John/Matt, to just delete the contentious posts from a thread. When you get people such as Don contributig to a thread, you'll always see that there's more to learn, and if that particular subject doesn't crop up again very soon, we might miss that knowledge completely..

Again, I'll never disagree with a mod.. mainly because I am one (on the very rare occasions that I bother to turn up) on a big tech site, with sometimes dozens of mod decisions a week. Don't envy you one little bit John..

Yes, that is unfortunate, but I did not want to point the finger at any individual, so the whole thread went as a consequence.

It's very rare that any intervention of this sort is necessary.
