If you could only take one lens..

To be a bit different- the DA40 Ltd. 18-135 zoom might be more versatile, but sentimental attachment to the tiny 40 trumps this. If you only get one lens you've got to truly love it, right ?

Just remembered - Douglas Adams knew the answer all along.

Bearing in mind that the 'standard' lens on 35mm was a 50mm, the answer to the ultimate question for an APSC dslr is obviously '42' (mm) !!!

Peter:

So does that mean a 28mm prime to give 42mm equivalent then?

I think it's because the original premise was that we are stuck on a desert island, so which one lens would we have with us.

Presumably that would be something that could cope with the widest range of subject matter. The 31mm won't be much help in many situations, lovely lens though it may be.
Best regards, John

I interpreted the OP as 'which lens that you own'. Don't suppose many of us have the FA31 ?

I don't own one but a 1:1 50mm Macro would probably allow me to shoot just about anything I wanted.

Then I'd take a variety of bodies (Film, APSC, Q, etc.) in order to give the lens even more versatility.

I would say the F 35-70 slowly grew in to my favourite lens to take with me.
I love the focal lengt range .
It is light and very easy to use.

And it only cost me $40.- including a SFX which I never use.
