Like the composition of all of them, the first reminds me of the space shuttle. I think you should edit them first before posting they all look flat and the swan looks grey. A nice set though.

Nice set of images. I think the third one could make a superb monochrome image.
Best wishes, Kris.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Thanks for your comments. The third image happened by accident Kris. I was framing it up in the viewfinder and thought that it looked different as it is not my kind of style really - well it actually turned out to be better than I expected
I've had a quick look at the rest of the images and I'm really pleased with how they all turned out. A lot of that is due in part to all the advice that I've picked up having been on here!!

Hi Rob,
When you say; "These are as shot from the camera" do you mean straight Jpeg's or Raw's converted to Jpeg with no post processing?
I ask because they all look flat to me.
nr 1 and 4 would really make superb B&W's like Kris mentioned. Specially the last one. The first could use some cleaning up.(the bolder and cut off
greenish circle on the right. The swan picture has some nice OOF rendering
but could use some cropping also.
The third just isn't working for me.(mainly...because of the last one.)
In general you are not showing the full potential of each file, which can be addressed with a few simple mouse clicks.
The last one I would like to have a go with, to let you see what some tweaks can do.

I had a quick and dirty go (about 5 minutes if that) at a BW conversion of No 3 just from your small jpeg. With the original file someone could do a much better job. I don't like it that much as I have killed off what interest there is in the sky, but I haven't worked out yet how to improve contrast there without messing up the rest of the shot! IMHO, though, it is a bit of an improvement on the original. Just an idea of where to go, not a finished product.
I'll delete it if you'd rather.
Best wishes, Kris,.

Rob,
Hope you don't mind - I have also had a dabble with the 3rd image, and like Kris, it's been a quick one. I have taken a slightly different approach (via B&W and split toning), but again, it's merely indicative of the potential of the image and not complete by any stretch.

Again, hope you don't mind...

nice set, and I love no. one - the light wasn't doing you any favours!

Totally agree, but as others have said they are not lost if you convert to B&W which is all about shape and texture anywaythe light wasn't doing you any favours!
With the second shot you could try desaturating the image and leaving the yellow on the beak.

Malo, you have managed to keep more interest in the sky than I did! Anyone else want to have a go

Thanks for showing me what can be done with a little effort
I must admit that I still have a lot to learn when it comes to image manipulation. These images were converted to JPEG from RAW using Silxypix with no other editing.

You'll get much better results working with the original files than we could here using the small jpegs.
One word of warning... tweaking in PP can get addictive....

Not at all. It is fun to see what different people make of the same picture! womble wrote:

These were taken using the DA*16-50mm and 50-200mm WR lenses on a K7.
Thanks for looking and C&C welcome as always
These are as shot from the camera.
