It's pretty damn cold for October.
Your neighbour, Herefordshire, is cold too.

Nice image.

Not quite sure why but that photo made me laugh, which must mean I like it.

Excellent picture.

Best wishes, Kris.

It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

Well laughter is a good medicine, an apple a day keeps the doctor away and all that so I guess it's win/win all round.

Cracking picture

Impotentspider, some of us around here call it 'Dookin' for apples', wouldn't try dookin' for chips though.

I love this forum - getting back to the image- so clear, well composed and the light interest is spot on. The best bit is the fragility of the crystal clear ice. Well done. Some statistics for us novices would help to improve our knowledge base - ta

I'm sorry I forgot to give any info.

K10D
100 ISO
Pentax FA35mm f2 which I have learned to love already it's just a tiny bit too long for my taste but the f2 is great.
f8 at 1/4 second and consequently a tripod.
I used the 3 second delay on remote shutter fire to remove any possibility of mirror slap

Thanks for the info - don't want to sound silly - but what is mirror slap.

Perhaps I should call it mirror shake - when the mirror flies up out of the way there is a risk that it shakes the camera a little and on a long exposure creates a blurred image.

So, with long exposures on a tripod where you're not in any rush you can have the mirror go up, then wait 3 seconds and then the shutter opens by which time you hope the camera is no longer shaking.

I did it because I could and was using a remote control to fire the shutter. You can also have a 2 second delay between pressing the shutter button manually and the shutter actually opening if you don't have a remote.

It seemed a sensible thing to do in the circumstances and the image is sharp!
