Enjoy it - the P30t was probably the last of their manual SLRs (manual focus and wind on), a very nice camera. You can download the manual free if you're not sure about anything, just try googling "Pentax P30t manual".

Small world, I went to Aber uni!

This has also answered something I've been wondering about my P30t, what strap would it have originally had.

p30 and p30t are very user friendly cameras, you can have a good results with them - good stuff for beginners with A lenses is a nearly point and shot camera ,

Very small world, I too went to Aber Uni!
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

Here's my P30t, got it out for a portrait as the weather is good. I tracked down a 50mm f2 as that was shown on the front cover of the manual (and when I saw one cheap I pounced on it), it also has the correct strap:

Must try loading it with film this summer and using it again.

It's commonly called a PKA mount. It will basically take any Pentax SLR lens you throw at it, although the really old screw threads (M42 lenses) will need an adaptor. It will take autofocus lenses although obviously it won't autofocus.

What lenses do you have for it, and what do you need? I see a Tamron zoom and the Pentax 28-80mm in the photo above, but what's that other lens?

For landscape, what about something like this: link

There are a lot of cheaper non-Pentax 24mm's too, best of which is probably the Sigma 24mm f2.8. They'll all work on your future Pentax DSLR

Then how about this, maybe you've already got the adaptall mount as you appear to have a Tamron zoom. They sell regularly for little cash.

To be honest, I wouldn't rush for PKA over PK lenses. I seldom used my P30T in Program mode as it didn't tell you what aperture it planned to use. Instead I used it in Av mode with a manual lens, and in this scenario many of the SMC Pentax/Pentax-M lenses handle much more pleasantly than the A series.

Take the 50mm f1.7. The M and A series are optically identical but the A has a plastic aperture ring which is nothing like as easy to get on with as the metal one on the M lens. The plastic one tends to jump two or three clicks when you only want to move it one click, as the parts seem to bind. Meanwhile the metal one is precise and smooth - apply the force for one click and it'll move one click.

In your situation I might look for a Pentax-M 50mm (any version, but the f1.7 is probably the sharpest) to begin with. It's worth looking for ME Supers and other M-series cameras as they often come cheaper than the lens would alone.

Then if you want to expand with quality glass look for the M 28mm f3.5 and M 135mm f3.5. This will give you the classic three primes. You could also consider the M 75-150mm f4 zoom for your telephoto, it's relatively compact and very sharp.
