I dropped my Optio S

In a partially drunken state I dropped my Optio S, while it was on, onto a stone floor. All that seems to have happened is that the three outer metal rings of the lens have come off. The camera still works but I have been reluctant to take a photo with it in the present state.

Can I just clip back on the three pieces (there are two tiny springs attached to the outermost piece) or am I missing something like a elastic band or o-ring??

If it is beyond repair by me - is it expensive?

Three metal rings....? Hmmm, I've got an S also and I'm looking at it right now, but can't seem to see the rings that you speak of. Are you talking about the lens cylindrical 'walls' you see when the camera is on and the lens extends?

I've read a few woes but never one like this. IMO, I'd fire off some shots to check the operation of the camera as you say it's still working, I'm assuming you mean it's still switching on and off. See if you are able to shoot and store images. Try and use the camera as before you dropped it - test the zoom, autofocus, flash, etc.

If all is well, then, depending on how technically minded you are you may want to attempt refitting the rings. HOWEVER, if AT ALL unsure, get it off to a repair shop. A word of warning though.......I've read many a review (and also some personal experience) Pentax UK After Sales Service leaves a lot.........A LOT to be desired!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! You might want totry a local reputable repairer first.

There will be readers, including myself, interested in how you get on - keep us posted

I think I might be inclined to put in an insurance claim!

To be fair, although I'm sure some people have had problems from time to time, I have never had any complaint about the quality of work from Pentax UK. It has been slowish (6 weeks) but effective.

I dropped my OPTIO RS in Bermuda in November(I was sober) and it would not turn on as the lens was jammed. A spring popped. I sent ot Pentax Canada and they fixed it quickly and did a excellent job as per Pentax standards.
I had my film camera, Pentax Espio 200 so I could still shoot.

Moral: Attach to wrist and keep in case until ready to shoot.
