If you want simple, try uploading to a flickr account. You can then view them at various standard sizes - 500, 640, 800, 1600, and 2048, and download them. Flickr also processes the pictures quite well I think - applying a smidge of sharpening for each size option.

The size depends on what you want to use them for. Those sizes are small but OK for web viewing. Do not permanently resize your photos to that size without keeping the originals!
There are simple photoresizers out there, but they produce soft images (they do not resharpen after resizing). Remember you can download back from flickr onto your hard drive for writing onto CD.

Requirements can be very different and if you are looking for a simple way to store web sized images, then the tools are there in Photobucket, Flikr and so on to resize. This is not the way to optimum quality for print, but if it's all you want then you could set a smaller file size in the camera and shoot at a reduced MP count.
It becomes very different if the best quality images are involved, because then we want the largest file size and perhaps the best way to store a bulk of these is to use external hard drives. Always keep more than one copy to cover for hardware failures.
Professional standard resizing for a specific purpose is best done is programs such as Photoshop.
