How do I......

Was away over the weekend - a one night stop in Dublin for two special Services.

Took a few piccies most of which I'm quite pleased with but in the middle of these 165 shots are some taken by a friend 'cos I was hemmed in unable to move - and he went err a bit trigger happy with the Pentax [ needless to say it was the only one there and I really felt a little odd when I had to hold a N**** one at one point as the owner wanted his video camera off the tripod for a hand held sequence and there was nowhere to safely park his N**** ]

However I need to send Andrij his pics so he can edit them to suit himself . I'm shooting in RAW and if I export his pics from Aperture they go in jpeg format automatically.

Any idea how I can get them to him in RAW - other than sending him the card from the camera ? I'm not sure if they are DNG or PEF [ will need to dig into the camera to find out how I set it ]

You can see whether they are DNG or PEF just by the suffix, no need to dig into the camera.
Where do you keep your photos? There should be a file there with them in, so you don't need to use Aperture. Then just copy the files you want to send to him and use dropbox or Wetransfer to send them to him as they will be huge files - to big to e-mail.

Burn the RAW's to cd or dvd for your friend.

There are a few secure ways: FTP, RDC, etc. Unfortunately none of them are especially easy.

Wetransfer is probably the easiest, but do bear in mind that if there is anything of value you are putting yourself in the hands of a third party.

Also, depending on your ISP it could cause a lot of data upload which may eat into your data allowance (if you have one).

Of course, depending on the sizes of the files, you could just email them one by one!

Whatever your using to transfer pics to PC, card reader or camera should show up as a seperate drive if you go to "my computer" just up that as you would any folder and all the raw files should be there if you take note of the file numbers from what ever program you were using, just copy and paste these to a new location from where you can put on disc or however you transfer.
Hope that makes sense not good at explaining stuff.

Ah - I think on first look Annie's solution should work. Taa

I never delete from my card - when it's full, I format and use a new one and the old one is safely stored away .

Aperture is set up the easy way - plug in the card reader with card in and Aperture opens up and everything automatically drops in . Since I'm somewhat technologically challenged I try and make things fool proof - doesn't always work though

Crumbs - just had a look - he took 66 pics !! Hmmm they certainly can't go by e-mail or as a data upload

Must investigate DropBox and see if he can extract them from that. He admitted he was a bit trigger happy

Hey there TT - it sounds like you're storing your images on SD cards. Have a look here:

John Riley said, and it was news to me, that those cars aren't suitable for long term storage. You'd be much better off either storing them on an external harddrive. Ideally 2. They're much much cheaper than SD cards and 2 would offer much more secure storage than the cards too.

They are all stored in Aperture and its library is on an external Drive and they are not actually on my hard drive

AH, sory. I must hgave got the wrong end of the stick. When you said "I never delete from my card - when it's full, I format and use a new one and the old one is safely stored away" I thought you meant you used the cards as a form of storage and didn't use them again, which would be a bizarre misuse of the memory format!

Oh the cards are not re-used - and yes are a form of storage but my MacBook is backed up in two ways to various external drives and as I say Aperture has it's own dedicated external drive [ also backed up ]

One defunct Hard Drive that wasn't backed up taught me a lesson
