Often B & W improves the feel of wood but in this case and IMO changing from colour to B&W adds nothing. I do like both but given a choice I would go for the colour and may crop the top and left a bit so there was more emphasis on the timber and less on the sea.

I prefer the colour, the warm scene isn't so suited to black and white in my opinion. I also think you need to crop a bit off the top, mainly because it is quite disorienting the way the top edge of the photo looks like the horizon. If you crop it down past the pieces of wood on the far left it might dispel the illusion.

Yes the top edge of the photo looks like the horizon, but I like the idea of putting it in a frame as Kris suggested.
The older I get the faster I was.

Have had a play with your shot and I do still like it best in colour with the top and left cropped but it is your shot so if you prefer it as it is in a frame then you are probably right.
