As said above, have a look on ebay. You can get something which fits pretty well (doesn't rattle or feel as though it'll fall off) for about £10. Just make sure it uses the bayonet fitting rather than screwing into the filter ring.

I have that 55-300 hood and the 18-55 version, can vouch for both, feel sturdy and don't rattle or move when on the bayonet fitting.
They can be reverse mounted too which is useful for space saving.
