Holy Trinity Church, Coventry with a DA 18-55 kit lens

Some people complain about this commonplace kit lens and some love it. I think it depends on whether you have a good copy.
All of these were taken at high(ish) ISO in a dimly lit church with a hand-held K3ii

2. The Christmas tree and some of the massive masonry piers supporting the tower.

Holy Trinity is a magnifcent medieaval church right in the city center, said to have been founded by Lady Godiva.
It is well worth a visit should you be in Coventry.
Your comments on the pictures - and the lens - are welcomed

Good shooting David, I never liked mine when I had it. Just didn't get on with it at all.
You've managed to get great results with it, hats off to you.

Can't see anything here to fault the lens for - or indeed the photographer! A lovely set.

Very nice. I never had issue with my kit lens, apart from it being screw drive.

I've always found my DA18-55 really useful ... The danger is we just forget to use it, when for many situations it is actually ideal.

The lens, camera and photographer have all performed well here ... But David, I think you could do your images a few favours and sharpen them more, it's not enough for the resolution and the reduction to web size.

You're in good company on this I must say. .... Being a bit provocative, and not so much for K3II users, but I find that the majority of K1 images we see here are inadequately sharpened , probably because of the very heavy resolution and scaling reductions needed for display

That's an interesting request. I tend to sharpen them to the point of it looking a bit OTT and then back it off. It's too late for mucking around now but I will post some super sharpened ones for the purpose of comparisons. Anyone else got opinions on this?

I think the most likely response from most others will be that they look fine to them. I think they might shine a bit more it there was greater bite to the textures, such are the stonework and pews.

How much is too much? I actually think it's all in the kinestetics ....(believe it or not!) .... The learnt 'feel' of our processing sliders and mental attitude to it.

I often think this is a very similar phenomenon to that experienced by some drivers (you know, we've all been behind one, or maybe have been one) who when going up a hill get progressively slower and slower ..... Simply because they just cannot make themselves to press the accelerator down far enough, despite the fact that there is a huge amount of movement still available beneath their foot.

I'm only on a phone at the moment but it does look a little better ....perhaps someone with a decent larger screen could zoom in on some of the stonework for another opinion. Certainly it has not gone too far .... that hill must be a steep one .... 😉
