while not wishing to stir up a hornets nest .. can ISO 1600 actually be considered high these days?

Especially if you are using added software to reduce any noise.

Certainly is for me, I came from an Oly E-510 not so long ago
Lovely camera but high ISO wasn't it's strong point.

Still having a K10D it is for me but as people buy the newer generation of DSLR (no matter what make) we are starting to see better and better ISO performance. I would be thinking in the 3200 range now to show high iso performance of a new camera.

Hi Lance. Out of interest, is there any particular reason you chose Noiseware over Neat Image or Noise Ninja?

Cassoulet au confit de canard!
But probably the wrong breed of duck so I guess Lance's ducks are safe!

Thank you very much, Martin.

Yes, the duck images are slightly noisier, due mostly to the darker backgrounds as I am sure you realise, but I am still learning the ropes of the Noiseware program.

They are for me! I never kept anything over ISO800 before.

True. There has been talk that the K7 higi ISO was noisy, but by shooting RAW I was trying to point out that the results from the K7 at high ISO can be made to look as good/bad as the competition.

Here is an ISO3200 shot. K7 + DA17-70 f4 @ f6.3, 70mm 1/20sec.

LOL. Thanks for the nice comment, George.

The only duck recipes that come to mind are Peking Duck and Duck a l'orange

Now that I am quite impressed by.

No software noise reduction I presume?

Not really. Someone suggested Noiseware and I tired it and was happy with the results. I didn;t bother with the others as the price was fair.

You are welcome Lance.

Its good to note that if the subject doesn't fill the frame and there is a distance between the subject and background more noise is probable. As said the dogs are cracking pics with good composition and exposure.

I'm sure these images would be easily overblown.Nice work
