Hiding exif data

I believe exif data can be lost if the image is edited by some of the software suites. Maybe one reason?

Certainly in Photoshop Elements, and I assume in full Photoshop too, if you save for web you lose the Exif.

Not in Photoshop CS4 and CS5, you've option their what EXIF data to save.Certainly in Photoshop Elements, and I assume in full Photoshop too, if you save for web you lose the Exif.
The only problem it doesn't save the lens identification.

I take the point, but I'm not sure that anything can be done about it. The originators would have to make sure the information is retained. Alternatively, basic info can be included in the description manually.

I find it useful to look at focal length, aperture etc but more and more find the data is not there.
