Hi Rob, nice that you took the time to write about yourself!
I was at Greenham Common too, but then in the early 80s. And not photographing planes

Welcome, Rob!
Aviation is one of my interests too, although I have never got around to an airshow yet, neither have I taken any good aircraft pictures. Maybe your pictures will inspire me to give it a try...

Welcome Rob.
I was at Greenham Common in the mid 80's from time to time but definitely not photographing anything, given the level of security and all the protesters outside the gates

Gwyn, are you serious :Hyram, that was me, outside the gates
We had to run the gauntlet of the protesters every time we arrived for a meeting
It was a very spooky place to hold meetings, knowing that there were nuclear missiles just yards away in the underground silos

Yep I am serious, but I was only there for one day - the day the women encircled the camp. I had three young kids, one a baby, and couldn't stay there, much as I would have liked to. We lived down the road in Wantage, so it was a very real, and worrying situation for me, and for my girlfriends. We organised a few cars and went for the day of the big demo. One used to go regularly with food for the "Wimmin" and do the washing for some of them, but didn't stay as she had 6(!) kids.
It is something I am very proud of actually. We may not have made a real difference but we did make our voices heard at a time when the government was happily running roughshod over every one and every thing.
Sorry to have hijacked your thread Rob

You are right to be proud of your efforts.
We never liked the idea of having to go to Greenham Common and had a lot of empathy with the protesters but it was part of the job at the time.
Presumably living in Wantage, your other half is a physicist of some sort :
Apologies to RobE17 for hijacking the thread again.
Edit: Typo corrected !

The BP worked at RAL making onboard software for satellites. He was head of the real-time programming team. We both worked at Appleton Labs in Datchet, and moved to Wantage when it merged with Rutherford.

Sorry didn't realise I was going to start a debate about all this...if I was in my job in the 80's I'd have had to arrest all you protesters

I've been interested in photography since my parents bought me my first SLR, a P30T for my 21st birthday all those years ago. I now own a K20D and several lenses and my specialist subject is airshow photography, it was my Dad who sadly passed away in February who gave me the bug. My first airshow outing with a camera was the International Air Tattoo at Greenham Common somewhere in the 70's with a picture of the SR-71 in the static park...well the top half anyway and now it doesn't feel right if I'm at an airshow with no camera round my neck.
When there's no airshows then I like to take landscape photos and portraits, I came onto the forum to share my pictures and also to get advice from fellow Pentaxians.
