Welcome Tom,
If you have the time, I and I'm sure others, would love to know why you made the switch. Particularly as the Nikon D5000 is so highly regarded.
I know why I prefer Pentax DSLRs to any other brand but I'm intrigued as to what makes other swim against the flow.

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum. I would second Andrew's comments. On this forum we often are given the reasons for people moving to other brands. It would be good to hear why you moved to Pentax.

i'm a convert to pentax too (from a good deal of high quality sony/minolta equipment), for the limited lenses. like the others, i'd be interested to hear about your reasons for changing.
EDIT: how rude of me! i forgot to say welcome. feel free to ask any questions about pentax while you are learning about the system and its intricacies...

I have been out and about and will upload some pictures to Flickr when I get home.
I purchased my nikon just before a 3 week trip around the US, including Yellowstone and Zion NP. I took some great photo's out there but the camera never wowed me. The live view was so poor I never used it, and the autofocus semmed to hunt a lot. I was not going to buy another camera until around april, however I went into my local camera store to have a look around, picked up the K-r and the rest they say, is history.
I must admit if I had the money I would of liked the EOS550d, but the difference between that and the K-r was minimal in my eyes and the cost implications were massive.
Cheers for the warm welcome!

Hi again,
I have taken a few shots and uploaded them to flickr. The ones with the K-r are just the most recent london ones. These were taken with the standard 18-50mm lens. These were my first attempts so hoping it gets better from here but my first impressions of the camera are really good. Let me know your thoughts.
One slight worry - I notices a small black mark on my viewfinder - have any of you had this before? Is it serious / should I get a replacement camera? The makr does not show up on any of the images.
If you have any tips please let me know.
Kind regards
Tom

I love the night shot of the London Eye. And the rest are not too shabby either.
The black mark in the viewfinder sounds like a spec of dust and may be more trouble than it's worth to try and get rid of. You could have a look inside to lens mount to see if it's on the underside of the focus screen and try a blower to dislodge it.
I've fitted new focus screens, being as careful as I could, and still ended up with dust marks in the viewfinder.

I have just switched from a Nikon d5000 to a Pentax K-r, and I cannot believe the difference - very happy I changed. Looking forward to contributing to the site.
