Hey hello to everyone

Just wandered in here yesterday and decided to join. Recently started taking my photography seriously and bought a new K20d with 16-50mm from SRS. So far loving it, though a lot to learn.
I live in Derby (well someone has to) and work offshore (oil rigs) which is where i am right now so can't upload anything to my gallery just yet. That will have to wait until i get home.

Anyway, Hello Everybody

Welcome Steve.
So does that mean you are unable to enter this week's competition? it's about storms, you should be well placed to capture some bad boys out there

Welcome Steve.

Apparently Derby is the furthest point in the UK from any coastline and you work offshore

trouble is getting a permit to use a camera is not so easy, going to have to wait for another contract for that one.

Sure do, 5 miles from my house is the furthest point, my last job was a yacht instructor lol and I want to do some seascape pictures when I next get home too.

Was always told that honour belonged to us Aylesburians! That's why we hardly post any seaside photos!

'tis true! We were always taught that we (Aylesbury) were the furthest point from the coast at school - unless coastal Britain is collapsing into the sea at an alarming rate I reckon Derby has a fight on its hands...

But the OS are using skewed data - they admit they're only a mere 45 miles from tidal water (they're virtually coastal!) so Aylesbury can beat that by a clear 10 miles or so. We win!!!

That's more than 45 miles from here I'm sure but I'll check my map after lunch - all our old school teachers wouldn't have lied to us...
