Nice shot with lovely sharpness to the eye, I take it this is with the 50-200? Well captured, where did you take this shot?

well here in italy all animals are scared by humans, and i think they have all the reason of this world!
My best animal shots were taken outside italy, in countries where animals are more confidential with humans that like to be near it!
Each friday, this friday too of course, i usually go to a natural reserve where i can shot herons or other animal only into in a mimetic house (there's a specific name in eng for it?) and even in this situations it's very hard to do!

You are probably referring to what I would call a 'hide' - that is, a structure designed to accomodate shooters (of all sorts) without scaring the birds & animals away. Often they blend in with the natural environment, by use of camouflage.

Excellent exposure, sharpness and subject - very nice shot ! Maybe giving the bird just a little more space below it's head (as that is the direction it's 'facing') would make it a little better.

That's a very nice shot of the heron. And love the way you managed to capture it while the head was leaning, gives the impression of searching for its own reflection .
Over this side of town near Stockers lake during the season when herons are around they usually are quite good. Some of them are so comfortable that they get within couple of meters of people. On one of my walks by the canal last year the boatman showed me a picture of a heron that was used to come and eat within a few feet of his boat, he used to feed it, and he snapped a polaroid of it hardly a meter away from him.
Some houses by the lake that have fish ponds in the backgardens owners have to cover it with nets because herons come and gobble the fish lol
