You need to use version 3.01 of Remote Asisstant, available here.
Firmware updates are cumulative. You need only load the latest not any previous versions. It should be possible to downgrade firmware, but I've never tried it.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your help and fast response.
My Pentax Remote Assistant version is 3.01, but when start the Assistant all options stay grayed (as if the camera was off).
In Windows Explorer (Vista 32), the camera logic unit and folders are present (camera is recognized by Windows OS).
Other function I can´t find is the “Wireless control of external flash” (from firmware 1.10), and all other functions mentioned in http://www.pentax.co.jp/english/support/digital/k10d_s_1_10.html.
Will uninstall and reinstall the Remote Assistant…
Best regards.

Hi George, Hi Tim,
Uninstalled and reinstalled Remote Assistant 3.01 with same result (no connect with camera).
The camera Panel LCD (top right) indicates battery state and “Pc” in low right side of the LCD (when camera is connected to the USB and power ON).
Controlled the firmware version 1.30 at the camera startup.
Can download the pictures of the camera memory to the PC without problem.
My USB connection is 2.0 (Intel D915GAV motherboard). Controlled in the Setup menu.
Vista 32 bit Home Premium running very good (reliability index 9.5).
In my Pentax Remote Assistant I don´t have the menu list (the menu line is blank). Just is active the “Options” tool key and the “Help” key (?), all other items grayed. When right click the menu blank line produces a drop down menu with the following items:
- Detailed viewfinder display
- Simple viewer display
- Separate screen display
- Status bar
- Shooting condition
- Arrange windows
All other tool keys or camera controls (in the lower window) are grayed.
Did something wrong? Forgotten any steep?
Thanks again for any further help.

IMHO Vista and USB do not work well together. If you hace a PCI USB card installed or can install one try attaching a camera to that.
Works 90% of the time.

If you bought a computer with Vista already installed, you can almost be guaranteed that everything will work fine. Just DO NOT install any other software or other hardware. You may be disappointed. Are there ANY computer components Vista does work well with?

Hi all,
Appeased in bed with the camera and all the printed doc´s around me, I found all the new functions of the 1.30 firmware version. Sorry is my fault!
Installed Remote Assistant 3.01 in my son´s PC (Windows XP OS) and all works fine! (USB ver 1.2).
During installation in Vista, when Installer selects Destination Folder, it defaults to this: “C:¥…¥PENTAX¥Digital Camera Utility” and have not a Browse option knob for change the installation folder. When installed in the Windows XP Pc, the suggested installation folder was C:…Program FilesPENTAXDigital Camera Utility… may be here is the problem.
Checked the RAINSTALL03.LOG files (log of the program installation) for the two installations (XP and Vista) and didn´t found problems there.
Will follow investigating and comment…
Thanks for help.

Vista is causing a lot of problems for writers of 3rd party applications. The reason is that to install software you usually have to have administrative rights on the PC, however under Vista, even if you are an administrator you won't have full admin rights, and so the installer programs need routines that temporarily elevate their "privileges". A lot of older (and some current) software packages will fail because they can't do this.
The reason that M$ took this approach was to minimise the damage that a virus/trojan could do. Most viruses run under the permissions applicable to the logged-on user, so if you are an admin, the virus can do what it likes. That is no longer the case under Vista. However, it breaks a lot of existing applications. Hence Georges' comment about Vista!
Microsoft used to have a "Third Party Application Toolkit" for XP which you could download from their website and use to fool older applications into thinking that XP was Windows 95 or even 3.1! I haven't checked to see if a similar Toolkit exists for Vista. I should imagine that it does. However, from memory it wasn't easy to use and was mainly aimed at developers of 3rd party apps.
EDIT:-
I should have called it "Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit" and more info about it is here http://www.microsoft.com/technet/technetmag/issues/2006/11/ApplicationCompatibility/default.aspx

Updated K10D firmware 1.30 directly from version 1.00
I see have not the functions of previous firmware versions, (i.e.; can´t connect to Pentax Remote Assistant).
Wondering know last version (1.30) is cumulative of previous ones, or need install sequentially from 1.0 - 1.1 - 1.11 - 1.20 and 1.30?
Can I go back to previous firmware versions?
Thank in advance for help.
Dirk TROTTEYN.
