It's a Bromeliad (Bromeliaceae). It's in the same family as the Pineapple.

A big Thank You from Liz (Mrs Snap) for the information Peter.
In the hall where the camera club meets one of the walls is used as a club photo gallery. Every two months or so six names are drawn and the members concerned donate 5 images, 4 landscape format and 1 portrait format, mounted to fit a 20"x16" frame, a small label showing the name of the photographer and the title of the image is folded over the corner. The images need not have been shown in competition so everyone has a chance to eventually show some of their photos. I think it is a good idea as other users of the hall may be encouraged to join our club.
