Find the option in the menu to permit the use of the aperture ring.

Go into the Custom Menu of your K10D and on the sixth (last) page you'll see the option "Using aperture ring". Set this option to "2" (Permitted) and you'll now be able to change the aperture using the ring on the lens (the camera has no electronic connection with older lenses so will show the aperture value as being "F--").

With the camera in manual mode you can set the aperture on lens and press the Green Button to get an appropriate shutter setting. You can also use the lens in Av mode but only wide open.

It takes a little practise to get used to using a fully manual lens but once you do they're usually quite capable of good results.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Search for other posts on this.
Briefly, "using aperture ring" must be enabled in the Custom Menu.
Set top dial to M
Press green button (I have K20D -the same?)to set exposure speed.
Press shutter button.
Good luck

Have a look in the manual.

It will tell you to set the aperture stting to "permitted, and will detail the functionality with using a manual lens

I always thought it would make sure the contacts and so the lenses is correctly mounted on the camera, at least that's the only thing I can think of that makes a bit of sense
