Witch of the point and shoot pentax cameras would people recommend as a replacement for my wife's old Olympus c-770??

Depends what it will be used for.

Cheap and cheerful - the Optio S1 - which got very good reviews when it came out - can be picked up for around £70 now 14mp and 5 x zoom - good VFM

Optio VS-20 if a 'mega zoom' is required at x 20 zoom this is huge. However, reviews on this one are mixed - general consensus is that IQ is not the greatest - struggles at ISO 800. This one can be picked up from our friends at SRS for £127

Or the Optio RZ 18 gets very good reviews in decent light and seems to have good spec for the price inc 18 x zoom and SR - (around £115)

Horses for courses Don. Pentax my not be the best option here - what about a Ricoh?

There are some quite nice and little mentioned Pentax compacts at the moment.

On a practical basis, it's nice to have the wqeatherproof one (currently WG-2) as that can be taken anywhere, even under water, without hassle. It's quite compact too.

The LS465 is stylish and fashionable, so could appeal. Lots of snazzy colours.

The VS20 has a super zoom range, but is a bit bulkier.

The RZ-18 is ultra compact.

Thanks Carl, other options are being considered some of the Panasonic range have good reviews but most of the stuff I have checked out on the point and shoot complain of noise at anything much over 200 ISO.

Noise will be a problem at high ISO values, but bear in mind what the camera will be used for. Also, don't forget the Q!

And don't forget it's for the wife, so what she wants is paramount otherwise you'll never live it down...

Have to say Don that the only compact I own (and a couple o years old now) is the Panasonic DMC FX550 and that is a great little camera with it's Leica lens.

As John says - there is always the Q - and I love my Q but had not considered that as a point and shoot as we tend to think of a compact with a do it all lens.

All said - John's point that it is for your better half should be taken in to consideration - have you actually asked her what she wants it to be able to do and what is important to her? You may find she really wants a K5

We are after something a bit more compact than the Q and simple, pocket size but with good quality shots, family snaps and baby stuff.

Taking that on board Don, I'd go for the WG-2 as it is quite compact and can go with the family anywhere without worrying about it getting wet or damaged. Very liberating and something that extends the repertoire of the cameras you both own.
