I have heard that some sellers on ebay won't send to Italy as there is supposedly a higher than average problem with goods getting stuck/lost in customs.

What would you expect to happen if your goods did not arrive from a forum member here ?

My sister lives in Rome and Birthday Cards sent from here can take
2-3 weeks at times via airmail and that's to the Capital City.

... and that's the problem ... Just kidding, but most likely the postal service is less efficient in Rome, Milan, Turin, etc. than in small towns.

I live in Pise and in the last 4 years I bought almost 30 items from UK (lenses, cameras and related accessories) and never had shipping problems. Airmail parcels always arrived within 10-14 days (most of them within a week).

The most reliable/affordable service for sending goods to Italy is Royal Mail airmail international signed for (prices are online, additional insurance is quite cheap and recommended for high value items). That's because packets are delivered by "Poste Italiane" (the actual national mail service) not by SDA (an unreliable company which they outsourced express delivery services). In the past packets that were expected to be signed on delivery actually didn't but they eventually fixed the problem so, nowadays, if the postman doesn't find you at home, he leaves a message and you can collect the parcel at the post office.

As usual the buyer should assume all the risks of shipping provided the items are well packed . A couple of times I received lenses sent into an envelope (!!), just wrapped with little foam. I was luck because they both arrived undamaged but the packaging was definitively unappropriate for overseas shipping... A final suggestion is to seal the packets with plenty of sellotape

Sorry but I can't help you with that auction, the item you are interested in has been in my watch list for a few days now and lets just say there would be a conflict of interest.

Please don't create more than one thread for the same item. This is very confusing.

If anyone wanted to help you they would need to consider very carefully what would happen if the lens went astray. There is good reason perhaps why eBay sellers often will not ship to Italy as there may be a higher than average number of missing parcels in the Italian postal system.
Best regards, John

If I were not interested in the lens myself I would have been happy to send it to Italy. Personally I have never had a problem with items going missing when sending there but obviously as I am bidding myself it would be a bit daft.
