i've been given an estimate for the repair of my pentax 80-320 lense. apparently the Iris is jammed and it's going to cost me £91 to fix. I've been told that Pentax don't stock a replacement so they have got to rummage through a load of old lenses to see if they can find a part. (i find that very odd that pentax don't stock it). The lense cost me £85 second hand a month ago so i can't really justify the cost. Anyone got any ideas on how i can get it fixed more cheaply.

Thanks Richard

Some time ago on the Yahoo pentax user group there was a thread about sticking irises. I seem to remember that there was a suggestion that if the fault was caused by grease then it might be cured by leaving the lens in a sealed container with an open dish of lighter fluid - the vapours would dissolve the grease after a week or so, although one might think that they would also dissolve any grease that was meant to be in the lens. I accept no resposibility for this!!!
