Yours is Wonderfull Ken!
Great to see that the resluts of ours are different but that they hit the spot like John said.
May I ask why you soften things up, I went completely the other way and sharpend it.
Well I like yours too! I softened because there was an inherent softness from the mist in the image (or maybe Alan has a filthy lens ), so rather than sharpen detail that isn't there I thought I'd go with the flow. Anyway you can only do things with an image that has potential anyway.Yours is Wonderfull Ken!

Well thank you Ken
Yes it makes perfect sence, I was also questioning to leave the sharpning up or not mainly because of the tree but the darken layer makes up for most of it.
I like how you could keep the mist in there and boost that, it's quite hard since it effects the whole image.

I Finally decided on a crop and played around with Kens idea, changing the settings slightly, I then created a circular gradient mask and totally desaturated the outer area of the image.
I also discovered quite by accident that if you go into levels to adjust the image and forget to exit the Quick Mask you can fine tune the size of the masked area using the levels adjustment sliders, something else to play with
So this is it for now even though I feel those branches on the right are a bit overpowering, I'll probably still be playing around with it this time next year

Well now I've commited it to paper (A3 glossy print) I'm much happier with it.
The image turned out to be a beauty. Even the versions were so nice but now looking at the end result you did a terrific job. Its absolutely stunning. Inspires me wanting to go out and learn to take pictures of landscapes .Well now I've commited it to paper (A3 glossy print) I'm much happier with it.

I decided (before looking at what others had done) that the strong verticals of the tower and trees to the right of the cottages would be god in a vertical crop, I also didn't like the foreground tree on the right (without that tree I think I would like the 'as is' composition).
I also thought of a tranquil evening view.
So with a vertical crop, and playing with contrast and brightness, a little extra in the green channel and a little more in the red channel...
