Help!! Please!

Well folks. I made a massive mistake and possibly ruined an image I'd really like to keep

It was at the weekend while I was attending the rally. I had set my camera to ISO 1600 as I needed fast shutter, but light conditions were low.
I moved on to another area and Jacob got to talk to one of the drivers. When the driver saw I had a camera, he posed with Jacob.

I got one shot, then he moved back to what he'd been doing with the car. There was a very bright sky behind and they are slightly sillouetted. I thought I could bring this out, but the noise is horrendous.

If any of you paintshop experts could take a look for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and yes..I shot in jpg...I know, I should use RAW

Hey, it's not that bad - at least at my eye.
a) make a copy, just in case
b) try some noise removal tools - probably the picture will get a bit softer, but much less noisy - only have tried Neat Image - there's a free version (they call it Demo, but it's fully functional) - you can compare versions there. Give it a try.

There are other tools - maybe someone else can give a better advice.

And as far as I know, the noise is much less visible on a printout

Not paintshop, but photoshop expert lol , i will have a dabble tomorrow, noise ninja is your friend!

Just had a quick play,In adobe bridge, It should come out half tidy, however all is not lost you can put it in to black and white, looks nice with the tones corrected

its a bit artificial at the min but i have a nice bokh plugin for cs4 made by alien skin, its very good

if you have a larger image that would be great i can play with layers etc , grab the image and make it greyscale/black and white looks good, would also look good in black and white with just the car in colour

I didn't think of using B&W..don't know why. You've certainly taken away more more noise than I managed to.
I haven't tried my link, I put the file straight off the SD card onto photobucket, has that re-sized it? If you don't mind, I could email you the original if you PM me your email address.

Thanks, I used an Aperture plugin called Dfine by Nik Software. I think there is also a photoshop plugin. I'm still learning how to get the best results, on this one all I did was sample the noise on the drivers face in two places (cheek and chin), and once on the dark part of his firesuit.
