Hello Ladies...

As I was saying in the other post, I ws looking for a MX and ended up with two. A crazy lucky bid, never thought I'd won, but I did

Good thing too cuz it just arrived and it is gorgeous.
The other one was very nice, no dents, no serious deterioration but some brassing.
This one (the one on the left) is even nicer, very litle marks anywhere.

But I can't keep them both, so one of them (guess which ) will be leaving.
I just bought some Ilford 400 BW and will be trying it out.
I might replace them light seals on both and put the one on the right for sale.

BTW, this also came in with the MX:

Why not? Useful to have two bodies, one with colour and one with BW, or one with 100ASA and one with 400ASA...

You'll remember that a colleague in the photo society had an MX and that was very bad shape. We couldn't get the light meter to work and it seems it occasionally malfunctioned. So I gave a pass on that one and kept searching ebay.
After checking the crumbling seals, I told this guy that I could do the sealings on his camera just for practice. He told me its not working, so not worth it and "do you want it for £15?"

Guess what...
DOH!
Now one must really go, I'll practice on the other and keep for parts.

LBA and CBA seem to be the only addictions where group therapy leads to even more addiction...

Update...

Just done new seals on one of the MXs (the one on the left), and gave a bit of a cleaning.
It really is a pitty about the brassing. You can't really see it with the bright lights but its got a fair amount of scuffs around the body... Still much better than some stuff I've seen on the bay...
I'd like to clean some persistent speks of dust on the focus screen and marks on the mirror (crud for the seals), but I'm a little hesitant in touching those.
Gonna research it a bit.

The screens are notoriously difficult to clean. Take care.

Well I WAS going to say "what a lovely pair" but given this topics title I'd better keep my mouth shut

Update on the cleaning.

I've used cotton q-tips covered with a cheap glasses cleaning wipes and very gently cleared the debris and stains from the mirror.
Its not pristine, but its very good now.
However, looking from underneath, I now clearly see that some of the spots on the focus screen aren't really spots... It seems the screen has been damaged somehow. It doesn't really imped operation, and they aren't very noticeable, but it doesn't look that great.

Fortunately the MX I'm keeping for myself is pretty good.



The screen on the MX I'll keep for parts is dirty but doesn't look damaged.



The mirror though is pretty dirty. If you focus a bit back you'll get the mirror surface and this is how it looks like...





So I'll use the screen from the parts MX to replace the other one.

I still want to clean the screens, but thats gonna be very tricky...

You can pick up replacement focus screens on ebay now and again. I doubt you'll be able to clean them as they scratch very easily. See Bojidar's website for the part numbers.
