As Bill says, take lots of photos, practice makes perfect, or so they say.
Post your shots on here for CC. We are a friendly bunch, but we will tell the truth! But that's how I learnt (I'm still learning).
Also, comment on other peoples' shots. That can really help you think about what works and what doesn't; and, more importantly, why.
