Hello...finally

Hello to anyone reading!

And why finally? Well, I've been looking at this site for a fair few months now but didn't join as I felt I didn't really have anything to contribute! I say that because the K-5 I bought in June is both my first Pentax and my first SLR.

I've no illusions about the standard of my photography but I enjoy it and I guess that's more important as it's not my day job!

On the subject of which, any feedback on the photo's displayed on my Flickr page would be gratefully received. I've not had any tuition of any kind and keep trying to learn through looking at other photo's and experimentation but I'm sure there's lots of things I could do better.

Some of the information I've gleaned from here has been most useful, so thank you all for that. Perhaps I can contribute too in the future.

Simon

Glad you jumped in! As you'll know this place is highly supportive to us novices - although looking at your flickr you've already been putting the K5 to really good use

Look forward to your contributions

Some great shots on your Flickr pages, Simon. I especially love the Italian pics, in particular Monte Vesuviano, as I used to find myself "despatched" to Napoli, Pomigliano D'Arco (the Fiat/Alfa factory), or Sorrento on quite a number of weekends on courier hand-carries and would spend my waking hours strolling the back streets of these places with camera in hand (Pentax, of course!). I keep meaning to grab the boxload of photos and transparencies from my mum's place every time I visit Glasgow! I want to scan my 35mm stuff, and post them on Flickr too!

Anyway, a warm welcome here!!

Welcome Simon. There's quite a large Geordie community here on PUF.

Thanks for your warm welcomes and the kind words regarding my photo's although having looked at some of yours I am reminded how much I could improve!

steven 9761: the Amalfi coast sure is photogenic although my attempt to photograph Vesuvius one evening was completely ruined by the enormous cruise ship that steamed into shot at just the wrong moment! Great timing for those on the ship but the fumes it left ruined any shots for the night so I'm glad I wasn't there just for the one evening.

davidtrout: I walk over the Millennium bridge every night and certainly see lots of people taking pictures of the Sage, Millennium bride and of course Tyne bridge most evenings. And by the way, your shot of Durham cathedral cloisters is amazing. Much, much better than mine! Did you use your Sigma 10-20 to get it?

I don't think I've posted a Durham Cloisters picture but I have one in my portfolio here and on PPG in the cloisters at Canterbury Cathedral. That was taken on the Sigma 10-20mm

Apologies David, I didn't read the title! Do you use the Sigma a lot? I love the effect it gives, albeit I'm learning how to get the best from it. My shot (www.flickr.com/photos/46178116@N08/4565347328/in/photostream) was taken with my Panasonic LX3 so it would be nice to head back with my K-5 and Sigma 10-20 and compare the difference in how much of the scene I could now capture. And if you don't send in the lawyers I might find myself 'heavily influenced' by your lovely b&w treatment of Canterbury...

George; although I'm not a geordie by birth I've loved living up here over the last 3 1/2 years. I think it's a wonderful area and all my fiends/family who makes the long trek up agrees, although the 'long' part of that sentence means not many of them make it that often!
