Heathrow Terminal 5

This spring I travelled through Heathrow's new Terminal 5 and managed to get some shots from the interior. These were taken with my previous Pentax, the K100D.

And contrary to Galoot's experience in the Livingstone Shopping Centre, no security guards bothered me at all. I wandered around a couple of hours, my DSLR in full view.

Just once have I been approached by a security officer, when taking a picture of a Ryanair plane through the windows at Sandefjord Airport. He politely asked me why I took the picture, and when I answered that I collected aircraft pictures, he smiled and said OK.

No, they were probably all busy at their security monitors as their superiors searched the Interpol database for your mugshot

I like the first and second shots, not keen on the divided aircraft in the third.

I was there in spring too. I never even thought of taking photos!
I have taken photos at Schiphol on the past with no problem.
I like the second one the best, but then I love detail photos.

All pictures were taken with the 1:3.5-5.6 18-55 mm AL kit lens. Extracts from the EXIF data show (all at ISO 200):

Departure hall: 1/20 f/8 at 21 mm
Construction: 1/45 f/8 at 45 mm
BA planes: 1/500 f/8 at 50 mm

What a great tribute to the often maligned MK1 KIT lens!

I tend to keep mine at f8 as well.

I use my 18/55 an awful lot and love the fact that it betters any other 'kit' lens out there.

After all, when you buy a camera it should do what Terry's did straight out of the box,

and my vote is pic 2 as well.

Really like #1.

Sometimes I have a feeling that its "hit and miss" with this lens, but I have come to think it is down to the photographer more than the lens. When I "hit" it seems to hit well.

I fully agree Terry.

I've stopped expecting it to be infallable as a P&S lens, with the camera on auto and the lens on AF. The aperture is generally too large and the focus too soft.

I've learned to shoot in AV f8 and focus manually when I can. My results are almost 100% now, and I've never had a quibble with the colours - really like them.

I also like the 18 - 55 mm range for walk-about, and it's LIGHT!

I'm not starting a fan club for it, but for the price I feel it does an admirable job.

I've always said the 18/55 is a great lens!.....mine performs every bit as well as my 16/45!..........in fact I don't know why I bought it!,,,,oh yes I remember now....I was told on here the 16/45 was far superior!.......

I'm pretty happy with the kit lens apart from being a bit on the slow side sometimes. That is why I decided to get the 50-135mm first rather than the 16-50mm. I'll admit to wondering if I should get the 12-24 as my next lens purchase rather than the 16-50... decisions decisions.

BTW, and back to the OP (so many TLAs), lovely shots. I, too, prefer No. 2.
