Have a look at the Failbook site too - similarly stupid posts contributed by users who've seen them.

I'm not sure if it says something that most of the really idiotic ones seem to be from the USA...

I suppose what I meant when I started this thread was also that facebook could be a driving factor behind P&S / phone camera sales.

The two things go hand in hand. There is a demand for somewhere to gossip and that leads to a need for content apart from words. So photos, short movie clips all add to the party feel.

If I want to talk photography i come here, if I want to tell the world I've just made lunch I go to Facebook. Having said that though, it's an easy place to share whole albums of pictures with friends, so there is a more sober side to it.

I'm a huge fan of Facebook and twitter, get many jobs through them both. There tends to be a lot of paranoia and distrust of web in general on this forum and I do wonder why that is.

I have my profile set to private so only my added friends get to see it. I used to work for a educational establishment so needed to keep it private, but apart from that I have no issues with social networking.

People tend in general to fear things they don't understand.

Oh photography wise I use it as a place to show my work with my camera phone, I take far more photos on my Nokia lumia than my Pentax gear....

Presumely most of the photos posted are taken with HP. Guess everybody (or almost) like to have his say, inform their friends and contacts and post their shots.

Instead of postcards and letters, a way of keeping in touch with the latest technology
