Thanks for viewing -- just had a 'phone call from Chief Photographer of the 'Brentwood Yellow Advertiser' newspaper saying they will use all the photos I sent them over ( the YA does NOT PAY any more but they give me a Christmas Lunch and a present every year ! )

Nice that they're using them but a bit of a cheek not to pay the standard rate.

Yes -- unfortunately most local newspapers now rely on 'Free'submissions from Readers, Council Employees ( 'Girl in the Office with a Nikon Coolpix') and I met some Sports Agency Snappers there who also were complaining that 'Good Enough' from a Phone is ruining 'Paid Work'. The 'Standard Rate' is £25--00 a job and it has not been increased since 1998 according to my records kept for Tax purposes.

Yes, I have found the same thing too. Quite happy to use the photos but not pay. They certainly did in the past. I've had cheques from the Ilford Recorder & long gone Ilford Pictorial and the London Evening News, and in that case even though they developed the film for me one lunch hour and took their own print they didn't actually use the picture. On the other hand, the Daily Mail did recently pay fairly for use of a photo.
By the way, your photos of the run were very good!

John : Well fancy you used to get photos in the 'Iford Pictorial !! I did as well -- paid 5 shillings I remember !! I used to get photos in the 1960's of the 'Trad Jazz' scene in the area such as the 'Cellar Jazz Club' in Ilford Lane and the Jazz events at the Ilford Town Hall all on my 1960's Asahi Pentax S3 !

Sunday was the day for the annual Brentwood Half Marathon and 3 mile Fun Run - I went 'On Spec'for three local newspapers -- no use -- no FEE !
I used mainly a 28-70m f4 SMC Pentax-FA lens from my gift MZ-5 and set continuous auto-focus as the runners set off and was disappointed to see that the actual focus was some distance BACK -- I have had this before with the 18-55mm SMC Pentax-DA kit lens and have to resort to manual focus. I used a little -1 Fill-in flash from the built-in flash on my K10D.
